![]() ![]() ![]() I sometimes just use the pdp universal remote to turn on the PS4 then use my harmony elite, only down side the elite doesn't work with some apps like PS Vue and Amazon video. This can leave your cable box on to a certain channel if you switch to playing PS4 for a while. I have both the harmony hub along with a harmony elite remote and the PS4 universal remote. There is also another power setting to leave devices on once an activity turns it on, and only turn it off when you turn off all activities. So if you switch between two activities that use the projector, switch, speakers, it will not turn them off. When you setup an activity, you have to specify all devices you want to use in that activity (projector, switch, speakers, etc). Your setup works as is, but I think you missed something in the way Logitech wants you to do things. That would add to the time it takes to change between activities, and for devices with the same IR code for on and off, get really confusing.įor me, I'm going to hold off, not family friendly enough, and hope logitech eventually adds button press API. ![]() Consider leaving all my devices always on, or add the "on" command to all relevant activities. So I would have to switch back to the TV activity by finding it on the remote screen. If I say "turn off AC", it will switch the remote to the AC activity, and it won't know how to control whatever source is on the TV. Sacrifice the physical off button on the remote for an activity to turn everything off. Thanks for explanation.īut for me, with a remote, I have to consider the following: To make efficient connectivity between Alexa and PS4, you must first connect your PS4 with the Harmony Hub. This way I can say "Alexa, turn on heater" "Alexa, turn on Entertainment" "Alexa, turn on Mini" and all the while, all devices stay running unless I specifically turn one off. To combat this, we set ALL devices to "never turn off" we then make a new activity called for example, "aircon off" and make the start of that activity "turn off aircon" This happens with all activities, so lets say I say "Alexa, turn on heater" for my aircon to come on, if I then say "Alexa, turn on PS4" it will shut off my aircon. If I was using this the way logitech expected, If I wanted to switch input from my PS4 to my Mini, it would turn off my projector, then turn it back on (Which will completely ruin a projector) This is because the activity has 'ended' and only one activity can run at a time. I have a Mac Mini that I use as my tv with plex, and a playstation 4. I'll try and lay this out a little more clearly as I'm terrible at explaining things.įor instance, I have Aircon, AMP, Projector, Lights. Yes, I don't use the remote whatsoever, so I'm not sure what power button your referring to as the hub doesn't have one. I was disappointed at no direct Alexa-Harmony integration, but it's definitely not needed. that's a pretty big difference vs just launching into the roku home screenĢ) it's FAST. Then using IFTTT you can trigger an Echo command and more or less instantly the Harmony Hub makes it happen.Īlexa, trigger watch Roku - this starts everything up and goes to the Roku homescreenĪlexa, trigger watch pokemon tv - starts everything and goes straight into the Pokemon channelĪlexa, trigger watch plex - same, but straight into plexĪlexa, trigger view smugmug - same, but straight into smugmugġ) wasn't clear to me that I could straight into a channel. This works great with Alexa, as long as you set up a distinct activity for EACH channel you want to launch into with the Roku. You can also go from shut down (at least, TV and receiver off) to a specific channel on the Roku. The beauty of the new Harmony Hub (I ponied up for the Elite, but I assume it works the same on the regular Hub) is that it imports your Roku channels into the remote so you can switch between them without going through the home menu on the Roku. When we have guests over sometimes we put a photo slideshow on using the Smugmug channel. We primarily use Plex off the Roku and the boy watches Pokemon TV. I've got a TV with receiver and a Roku 3. Might benefit those with a similar setup to me. TL DR These are the Best Universal Remotes: Logitech Harmony Companion. Looks like I use a template sensor too, just to more easily pull out the active activity from harmony:Īutomations.yaml includes: - alias: cinema_room_scene_automationĮntity_id: input_select.Thought I'd post this while I procrastinate from work.
